All students at Ventura Missionary School receive weekly instruction in Art, Computers, Music, Spanish, and Library.

Visual Art

At Ventura Missionary School, Visual Art education is a dynamic and in-depth program. We believe, as studies have shown, that when children are engaging in the Visual Arts, they perform better in their academic learning, enhance their educational experience and expand their creative thinking abilities.

We additionally believe that God created us to express our own unique creativity. Ventura Missionary School is committed to nurturing each individual child’s ability to express themselves through our carefully designed program in Visual Art. We joyfully encourage and teach each child to articulate and grow their God-given personalities and gifts through our curriculum.

Computers

The computer curriculum in a Christian school from kindergarten through 8th grade is designed to equip students with essential digital literacy skills and responsible technology use within a Christian worldview. Students learn fundamental computer operations, keyboarding proficiency, and safe internet practices. The curriculum progressively introduces concepts on the Google platform, such as word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, and basic coding or computational thinking. Emphasis is placed on digital citizenship, ethical online behavior, and the wise use of technology for research, communication, and problem-solving, preparing students to navigate an increasingly digital world as responsible and discerning citizens.

Music

The music curriculum is a vibrant expression of worship, creativity, basic instrumental instruction, and skill development. Students are introduced to fundamental musical concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, and dynamics through singing, movement, and instrumental exploration. They learn about various musical genres, historical periods, and the role of music in different cultures and worship traditions. Opportunities for performance are integrated, allowing students to develop their talents and share them with the school community and beyond, all while fostering a lifelong appreciation for music as a gift from God.

Spanish

The Spanish curriculum in a Christian school for grades kindergarten through 8th grade aims to provide students with foundational language skills, cultural understanding, and a global perspective rooted in Christian outreach. Starting with engaging activities and basic vocabulary, students gradually progress to more complex grammatical structures and conversational abilities. Instruction often incorporates songs, games, and cultural explorations of Spanish-speaking countries, fostering an appreciation for linguistic diversity and the people groups of the world. Beyond practical communication, the curriculum can also highlight the importance of cross-cultural ministry and understanding, preparing students to engage with diverse communities both locally and globally.

Library

The library curriculum at VMS is a vital component of fostering literacy, research skills, and a love for learning in students at our school and beyond. Our Librarian guides students in navigating diverse literary genres, both fiction and non-fiction, encouraging critical thinking and comprehension. Beyond promoting reading for pleasure, the library serves as a research hub, teaching students how to effectively locate, evaluate, and synthesize information from various sources, including print and digital. Christian schools often curate library collections that align with their values, offering resources that support academic studies, spiritual growth, and character development, all while cultivating a lifelong appreciation for knowledge.
