We are dedicated to incorporating 21st-century teaching and learning, giving students the opportunity to explore and perfect their critical thinking skills. It is our desire to prepare students not only in the classroom, but on the playing field, on the stage, through leadership opportunities, through chapel time, and through extracurricular activities. Spiritual Life |
At VMS, our heart is to inspire and teach our students to love God and others. We believe that it’s a necessity to know God’s Word and that it leads us to know God more intimately. One thing we know for sure is that when you know God, you can’t help but love others. VMS offers Bible class in all grades with specific and comprehensive curriculum. But it doesn’t stop there! We are committed to interweaving the truths of God in every subject and in each teachable moment throughout the day. We pray with our students and inspire them to love others, forgiving one-another as Christ has forgiven us. Our staff and our students are filled with joy and hope, and look to God’s word when faced with challenges and hurdles.
Faith at VMS is real. It’s expressed through worship in weekly chapels and events. Our students, families and staff are highly committed to community outreach opportunities like Missions Day, our Canned Food Drive, Coats for Kids, and Shoe Drives and more.
We are passionate about serving others and not our own interest. Our Middle School students are required to submit Outreach Hours each quarter. Middle School students also enjoy our week long Outdoor Ed program in the great outdoors where they experience excellence in science education, along with amazing sessions of Biblical teaching and worship time. At the end of 8th grade, we see the beautiful reflection of Christ in our students as they close out their education with the 8th Grade Retreat, Testimony Chapel, and Graduation.
Walking alongside our students in their spiritual growth is such a privilege and we continue to be amazed by the impact God makes in each student’s life. It is at the core of everything we do here at VMS.

History |
Ventura Missionary School has served Ventura County for over 40 years. VMS was founded in 1980 by public school administrators who wanted to establish a strong academic Christian school that would provide another school choice for the area. From the very beginning, the school was structured well, with high academic and behavioral expectations for students, challenging, standards-based curriculum, and credential requirements for teachers. We employ a group of dedicated Christian staff members who have a passion for training up children and teaching through a Biblical world-view. They consider it a privilege to teach Bible each day in addition to academic subjects and enjoy sharing their Biblical knowledge during chapel each week throughout the school year.
Campus |
Ventura Missionary School is located in the beautiful foothills of Ventura. We share our campus with our partner in ministry, Ventura Missionary Church. We enjoy an expansive campus with a full state of the art gym and science lab. Our campus is split with the lower campus offering elementary (K-4) classrooms, including kindergarten and our partner in education, Ventura Missionary Pre-School. The Upper Campus includes fifth grade classrooms, along with our middle school (6-8). Our fifth grade students enjoy their breaks and lunches with their peers in 4th grade. Middle School breaks and lunches are structured at a separate time.
We enjoy a clean campus in a beautiful setting at VMS, with a small amphitheater in a beautiful, natural setting behind our upper middle school campus. Our students enjoy worshiping in God’s creation, along with enjoying some science projects outdoors. Our teachers often use this setting to lead their students in some deeper discussions about the Lord. It’s a great place to worship together and to have fun too.
Although we enjoy an expansive setting, VMS is considered a closed campus. Safety for our students is a top priority. Guests must check in with the school office on the upper campus before volunteering in the classroom or participating in activities.
Extended Care |
At Ventura Missionary School, we understand the importance of a safe and reliable student care program for families. Our desire is to partner with you in the education of your child, and we’ve been extending that care beyond our school hours for over 10 years. Our Extended Care providers lovingly provide a safe environment to K-8 students. Not only will VMS students experience a fun and engaging outdoor experience, but they will also have special time carved out to complete important homework. We know that schedules are busy and we eagerly offer that structured time for our Extended Care Program Participants. Let’s take a look at the details:
Morning Care
Early care is offered for students between 7:30am - 7:45am. Sign up in advance for this option. Please call the office to obtain a link to register.
After-School Care
Registration for aftercare is by the week, in advance. We offer three different plans to chose from. Please call the office for more information or have us send you the link to sign up.
